National Night Out
On Tuesday, August 7 and Saturday, August 11, the FBI hosted information booths at National Night Out events in El Centro, Escondido, Chula Vista, City Heights, La Mesa, and Rancho Peñasquitos. FBI San Diego Citizens Academy Alumni Association and FBI Teen Ambassadors partnered with the FBI San Diego Division to spend the evening building relationships with the community. Event attendees learned about the FBI Child ID App, FBI Safe Online Safety Program, Chasing the Dragon film, Don’t be a Puppet game, FBI careers, Teen Academy and Citizens Academy, and much more. Booth visitors had an opportunity to try on FBI tactical vests, look at their fingerprint patterns, and test a small surveillance robot.

FBI Teen Academy
The FBI San Diego Division hosted 70 high school students for two, one-day Teen Academies this summer. Teens learned about good decision making, FBI careers, human trafficking, violent extremist recruiting, the FBI deadly force policy, the dangers of drugs, met a drug dog, learned how to take fingerprints, role played a felony car stop with SWAT agents, and practiced split second decision making with the Firearms Training Simulator (FATS). They also had a delicious lunch, sponsored by the FBISDCAAA, during which they had small group career mentoring sessions with agents and professional staff.
At the end of the day, graduates received certificates and were designated as “Teen Ambassadors”, eligible to volunteer at information booths for community outreach events throughout the year. If you know a teen who might be interested in the Teen Academy, learn more at fbi.gov.
Summer Garden Party
FBISDCAAA Board member Gary Bobileff and his wife Maggie held a garden party at their home in Rancho Santa Fe on July 27. Thirty members and guests attended and enjoyed wine, cocktails, cheese, tri-tip, and other tasty treats. San Diego Fair
Our chapter’s goal is to participate in six events that will help promote youth safety and the FBI Child ID app. On four Fridays in June, FBISDCAAA members and Teen Ambassadors volunteered at the San Diego Fair to help parents fingerprint their children using the Child ID Kit and show them how to sign up for the FBI Child ID app. These outreach activities were a successful collaboration between the FBISDCAAA, the FBI, and Crime Stoppers.
Special thanks to Kelly Senados with Securitas Inc., from the Spring 2018 Citizens Academy class, who donated the popular Child ID Kits. Thanks also to FBISDCAAA members who donated their time and energy to volunteer: Dan Frazee, Fary Moini, Judith Andry, Yuki Marsden, and Sherry Stone.
Border Tour
Many FBISDCAAA members took a very educationally and thought-provoking tour with San Diego Border Patrol agents on June 28. The day began with a question and answer session with well informed agents, who provided great insight into the history of the border crossings, and who responded with great care and respect to numerous questions regarding the recent border crises. The group traveled by bus along the border for many miles, saw various fence structures, a WW2 bunker, and Friendship Park. From the time the US-Mexico Boundary Commission first met at Friendship Park in 1849, at the end of the US-Mexico War, people have met at Friendship Park to visit across the international boundary. During this time, the park has been characterized by goodwill and an absence of violence. Tour participants expressed sincere appreciation to the San Diego Border Patrol for this outstanding opportunity and look forward to our next “behind-the-scenes” tour.
