Q3 Membership Meeting

Save the date for our Q3 membership meeting on September 17. FBI Special Agent Michelle Hart, from the Violent Crimes Squad, will provide a briefing on a case involving an international murder investigation and conviction(s) following a federal jury trial. The case was recently featured on the CNBC docu-series, Deadly Rich.

Fall Citizens Academy

We’re thrilled to welcome another Citizens Academy class this fall! The group’s first meeting is this week, September 11, and classes run through October 30. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring dinner for 40-50 people during one or more weeks of the fall Citizens Academy, please contact Yuki Marsden at ymarsden@gmail.com.

Save the date for Graduation on Wednesday, November 7. Members are encouraged to attend the graduation dinner. An invitation and cost details will be sent via email in October.

Miramar Air Show

Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29
Volunteer with FBI staff and Teen Ambassadors in the FBI Recruiting and Outreach booth at the Miramar Air Show. The national FBI Hostage Rescue Team will be on site displaying a helicopter and talking to the public about their program. The San Diego based Evidence Response Team (ERT) also will be on site with their ERT truck. Volunteers will share information about the FBI, it’s programs, and careers. You may volunteer for four hours or the whole day.

Kroc Center’s Annual Boo Bash Fall Festival and Carnival

Saturday, October 27 from 1-4 p.m.
This is a fun family friendly event where families can have a great time in a safe environment. Volunteers will pass out child safety information, as well as candy and prizes provided by the event host.

From Terminals to Tarmac: San Diego International Airport Tour

A special tour has been arranged for FBISDCAAA members only, on Wednesday, October 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Contact sherisachs@me.com to sign up and provide your full legal name and birth date for security clearance. Complete tour details will be sent when your RSVP is received.

Walk through Terminal 2, the world’s first LEED Platinum-certified commercial air terminal which features Check point 6, the largest security checkpoint in California. As you walk, learn about the airport’s ongoing security efforts to include: employee training, Access Control’s System Boxes, Camera Surveillance System, and the Facial Recognition System (installed in the beautiful new International Arrivals facility). While on the tour, learn about major ongoing construction projects to include a new Terminal 1 and enjoy the Airport Arts Program’s permanent and temporary collections and how public art is incorporated into airport construction from the outset of the design process.

The tour also includes an exciting up-close drive on the airfield. As you tour behind the scenes, learn about the measures the airport takes to secure the airfield to include the Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS), which is designed to provide runway overrun safety; the Perimeter Intrusion Detection Fence, the Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) Station, Air Traffic Control Tower, Spooky Eyes, Blast Fence and Thermal Imaging. Other highlights include the Cargo Facility, Central Receiving and Distribution Center, the Rental Car Center, as well as the airport’s unique California Least Tern habitat.
